My first thought is this:  Shame on the designers of RSS for using  
archaic and obtuse rfc822 localtime dates instead of ISO8601 UTC  
dates!  What were they thinking?

I checked a simplification to the RSS code.  Why not try it and see if  
it works any better for you.
