You can put it there but most modern browsers detect it automatically due to
the link in the header, for example:
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS Feed"
href="http://jeremy.cowgar.com/mailroom/index.cgi/timeline.rss";>
but... it never hurts. Not all browser light up a button when an RSS feed is
available.
