I'm guessing there is a space character at the end of the branch name.  Have
you tried using:  fossil update 'tai '.

Or try this:  fossil sql
Then enter:  SELECT tagname, hex(tagname), tagid FROM tag WHERE tagname GLOB
'sym-*';

See if there are any funky characters in the tag name.
