The workaround is to use the "Markup Editor" button ( at the bottom,
next to 'Apply these changes' )
After much experimentation I found no way around using the 'Raw HTML'
edit mode. Almost any change to the html tags forming a table will
cause disastrous discards of existing content.
However, editing the HTML tags in markup mode works as expected, and
once I have got the new row added to the table, save the changes and
then go back into the WYSIWYG editor to comfortable \edit the contents
of the cells comfortably.
Bottom Line: Edit Mode: Raw HTML does NOT WORK
