doing a fossil gdiff opens an external editor with
2 or more files, where the older file is opened
(in my case) with "~0" appended to the end of the
filename.

my problem with this approach is, that it throws off
editors somewhat.  filetype might not be detected
correctly (in gvim for example) and sometimes
i need to set the filetype manually.

as this name is not used otherwise, it would be nice
if the filename was modified in some other way.
doesn't matter how really, just leave the extension
untouched :]
