I'm also considering dropping -h  altogether, and making neither options
global  settings, which  will simplify  the interface  somewhat, at  the
expense of some flexibility.

-l somefossillogin -h on

Are somewhat redundant in my opinion, but are needed if the settings are
stored in the global settings so  they can be overidden when cloning new
fossils.
