It was done the current way (simply counting timeline entries) out of simplicity, of course. i've got the rest of this week off and not too terribly much meaningful to do, so i'll take a look at splitting those up. i'm a bit concerned that it might quickly grow to a complexity that rivals that of the timeline, which i'd like to avoid.
