Let's just try it and see. Since the Fossil timeline arrows are constructed using rectangles made with explicitly positioned <div>s, it would probably be easiest to just set the color of the arrow rather than use dashed and dotted lines. So that's what this mockup does. This representation clearly shows the relationship between branches. It also highlights the fact that commit 58b4 has *not* been merged from trunk into proj2.
