I'm really surprised by that.  I've always used an editor to type in
comments, not only in Fossil, but in Bazaar and Mercurial also (and
RCS, though RCS doesn't provide for using an external editor).  Why
wouldn't you?  It's so much easier to compose the message and correct
typing mistakes if one is doing it in an editor rather than on the
command line.  The only situation where I would pass the comment on
the command line is if it part of script of some sort.
