Just to be sure I understand you correctly, is there then a conceptual difference between tags added with tag add and --tag in the commit command? I thought that they were the same, with the main difference being that tags added in the commit command never propagate.

That's a good question. i'll ponder that while awaiting opinions from others. Perhaps we should separate them into:

current branch(es): ...
current non-branch tag(s): ...
new tag(s): (--tags flag)

But the first two details can be seen by running 'fossil status' before commit.
