I only brought it up because it would placate PageSpeed/YSlow.

It’s the sort of thing you fix for the same reason that you silence harmless C 
compiler warnings: so you don’t develop a habit of ignoring problems, which can 
blind you to real problems later.

Obviously the low-hanging fruit should be plucked first.
