I agree.  I even dislike checking configure scripts generated by autoconf and 
similar into repos.

That’s worth reading this post all by itself.  I knew about most of the other 
special tags, but not that one.  Thanks!

I assume “next” ignores branches, so that rewriting the repo by stepping 
through it with “next” in a loop will prune all the branches?
