In a mailing list you're either "in" or "out". A forum > provides all possible options. I've had to deal with my share of fori. Frankly, they all suck for power users, often badly. While mailing lists do tend to be a bit more annoying than newsgroups, they nevertheless share the majority of advantages. Offline access, decent filtering etc. Heck, a lot of fori programs still hasn't even managed good threading. You can't search a mailing list? Stop using Outlook.
