Redrawn to FotW standard specs and attached as <us-ny-ob.gif>, plus seal detail as <us-ny)ob.gif>. Judging from the photo found by Ned, which shows the flag held hung by Town Hall officials, the background is dark green, and the seal takes up half the height of the flag (2 of 4 folding creases). The seal shows a seagull in flight, white with its wingtips black, the year 1653 in bold “old style” serifed black figures between its wings. (I must say that a 17th century date looks impresivelly old for a North American location!) The seal rim reads "Town of Oyster Bay" from 8 to 5 o’clock and, separated by middle dots, "New York" in the remaining arc, all set in serifed black capitals. On the flag, the seal is shown in golden yellow, with thick black lining, and the gull is filled in white. I should say that even though I am far away from this location, my heart beats in Oyster Bay. -- António MARTINS-Tuválkin ____. <[email protected]> | ()| Não me invejo de quem tem |####| PT-1500-111 LISBOA carros, parelhas e montes | +351 934 821 700, +351 212 463 477 só me invejo de quem bebe | ICQ:193279138 http://tuvalkin.web.pt/ a água em todas as fontes | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- De sable uma fonte e bordadura escaqueada de jalde e goles, por timbre a bandeira, por mote o 1º verso acima, e por grito de guerra "Mi rajtas!". ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Flags of the world" group.
