Might I suggest a slight change in focus here, which moves us from passive participants to active participants in a company's choice to move closer to free software development? Something like: Sometimes those companies also produce proprietary software. while we are happy that they have chosen GNOME as a basis for their products, we also work with them to encourage them to release more free and open source software in the future.
