One difference is that the D boxes are an IDE drive as opposed to SCSI. It
is easy to do with the SCSI drives, but we have not found a way to format
the IDE drives in a manner that changes the hard drive name like ST30XXXX
to something else. If somebody knows how to do it in a manner that will be
recognized by the Foxboro software install script, please let me know - it
will make our life easier. It will mean that we can use any IDE hard drive
that is big enough.

Duc,

I am not sure exactly how the "D" box install script works, but I have done
this with "A, B, & C" sun boxes that have SCSI drives. The keys for the
install script to work is that the hard drive has to been named like it was
a sun ex. "SUN9.0G" and the partitions need to be manually setup. The
partitions will be reset during the IA install so they don't have to be
exact. The install script uses the name to determine the size of the hard
drive. As far as hard drive size, you would have to look at the install
script for a list of available sizes that Foxboro uses. I have used 4.2G
and 9.0G, but there was several other sizes also.

Hope this helps,

Joe Gale

Subject: Hard drives for AW/WP-51D

I want to buy some spare hard drives for our D-style AW/WP-51 boxes. Does
anybody have a ready source for these drives? I know these IDE drives can
probably be bought from any PC supply house, but I thought that their sizes
are important (for the I/A install script to work).

Our D boxes originally came from Foxboro with 4.3 GB drive (Seagate
Medalist
4321, ST34321A) or 8.4 GB drive (Seagate Medalist 8420, ST38420A).

Thanks,

Duc
