You may also want to try the "Solaris 8 Free Binary License Program".  I
believe the C compiler that comes with this free version of Solaris is the
GNU compiler.

By the way, it's not totally free.  There is a $75 charge to get all the
CDs.  Sun will not allow you to download the operating system, therefore
free to Sun is $75.
