Well Cynthia I knew you say that yes you have to bow. I know that the group as a whole is important to you. However, that's just not happening - we are not one big happy family. Certainly there are growing pains, and the process is dynamic, so there is still a lot of time to build a more untied industry. In order to do that there must be a vehicle to service that purpose, we don't have that now. And as there is a wide range of factions in the industry we may never have that, as hard as anyone person works towards that goal.
Now to clarify to those reading I never stated what did or did not make a professional. Those who know me know , know clearly I do not base professionalism on the perfect teardrop. And I know that the vast majority of those senior members posting on any of the top three google face and body art forums do not hold that professional face artists are based on their perfect strokework. I do however, and venture they do, think that technique does play a role in setting an artist aside as a professional, as professionals are considered experts at what they do. Experts adhere to standards. I'm not going to further define professional here that's just not brain science, it business 100, and I should have to define association as it to is basic business, and both can easily be identified and explained. I certainly do not think paying a fee makes you a professional. However, it was clearly my understanding when I joined FPBA Association that it was a professional organization. Members did not have to be hands on face painters or body artists, but have a professional connection, they were to have a common purpose through a formal structure. Also so to clarify I never posted there where flakes in the association. And as long as a wanna be is in a group based on the common thread, in conjunction to the formal structure - fine, but a wanna be is not a professional of that industry. When you opened it up and the ranks grew 90% the overwhelming amount of those people did not join with the intent of building a professional organization. Of course they are not going to participate, and they have no real knowledge the origins of the association - I said and I stick to it - most joined to get their name listed in the directory. Overall to be an "Association" of professionals there has to be formal structure, then a code can be defined. Frankly, because you can't go back, I do not think that you can build a real association from what is here. It's a great base for something less united, but without 90% participating how does one define a formal structure that really has agreement. You can define it but buy in will be uncertain. You can't simply say here is a code and we these "members" adhere to the professional standards. We all know just how difficult this whole topic is and that the answers are no easy. Lest any faint at hear think I am tossing stones here at Cynthia, be assured this is not the case. It's my 2ยข. I respect anyone who for what ever reason is willing to set herself out where the stones fly. Now I must go to work. I have been body painting 3 days in a row, and I am in the process of redoing two web sites, and my marketing packet.....plus......... Loretta PS - if you want to learn to become a "real" professional do what the professionals do - go and learn. Stop reading and participate. The FPBA convention will give you the skills you need. The money you spend will come back to you time and time again in solid booked work.
