They told me to wait a couple of weeks  before I take it thru a car wash, altho 
I have to make sure it is a rinse/no wax cycle
(so a cheap touchless wash is good!) or take it thru a do-it-yourself bay and 
rinse it off.  The 3M product they use is dirt and
 'stuff' resistant and non-fading, so bird dropping will not discolor the film 
if left on, just wipe with a wet cloth.
