I thought I'd comment on your e-mail. The top six manufacturers in the face painting world are as you said fairly small entities. People tend to think of them as huge 500 to 1000 employee type operations. They are not. Call that the marketing spin perhaps. SNAZAROO actually boast that they make their face paints by hand. No doubt there is some equipment involved but we do still a great deal by hand. You will see that some manufacturers have little interest in going global and like their smaller niche markets.
In terms of batches many of the pigments are made from natural ingredients. For example titanium dioxide for the white or iron oxides for the yellow. This alone makes for minor variations from batch to batch. Nature does not provide perfect, consistent materials so we adjust. With this said, there should be color adjustments to provide a basic, consistent color. Most vendors will adjust their formulations every few years to perfect the formulation. One might adjust slightly to make the paint perform better or resolve a complaint from the field. Theoretically, these adjustments are made to improve the product rather than to save a buck. What you should not see is constant revisions. This is often seen in manufacturers that are only a few years old. Formula changes SHOULD BE transparent. At SNAZAROO we try to keep the product as consistent as possible from batch to batch. I have visited Fardel & Snaz UK at their factories & am surprised - esp with Snaz how much paint comes out of such a small place!! I also know that Mehron is a small outfit as well & most of these manufacturers almost make paint to order/as it's needed.
