The only thing about using soap in the sponges and brushes is that you'll probably never get all of the soap out. Then if a kid breaks out, they think it's because of the paints, which probably isn't the case. It's probably because they were allergic to the soap. Even I'm allergic to Ivory soap.
I'd rather be safe than sorry. Just replace those sponges when they get dingy.
