You can use virtualbox or vmware with windows installed in it to capture some 
usb logs.

I'm not sure that there's some guidelines... Check out driver for aes2501 ;)
Btw, libfprint uses userspace drivers, it accesses usb-bus using Daniel's 
libusb-1.0
