1) earth removal bylaw and information relating to it
2) an informal discussion for nexxum's ford's meadow proposal on

I'd like to inject a few words about the planned earth removal bylaw
(ERB).
Three things that this town badly needs are an ERB, a Tree Cutting Bylaw,
and a Sequencing Bylaw.
A Tree Cutting Bylaw would prevent the types of problems that we are
still experiencing on Doeskin and Wayside Circle.
Sequencing would specify the order in which developers are to be required
to get their approvals. Currently, approvals are sought in no required
order from Planning, Zoning, Engineering, Building, Conservation, and
Health. This leads to huge ambiguities in the different departments as to
how they are supposed to operate.
I really love where I live, but this ERB needs to be understood by
everyone for what it: A Really Good Thing. There really is a difference in
property values between Framingham and some of our neighboring towns. One
of the differences is in the structure of town government. The Town
Government we have today is a whole lot better than it was in the not too
distant past. I wasn't around during the Bad Old Days, but I've heard
enough stories to be thankful for what I've got. One of the reasons things
were bad and that we still have problems today is that the people who got
into town government were developers. They helped to structure the
existing regs so that life would be easier for those developers. Today,
some towns (Weston, Sudbury) have stregthened their regs so that a more
sane and rational approach is taken, while others (e.g., Everett, Chelsea)
are viewed as working girls with their charms exposed. The new ERB is the
first of three items that Framingham needs to get itself on track towards
becoming a town closer (than it is) to the first category.
So, when the public hearing for the ERB comes up (which will probably be
Tues Aug 27), please come to this and show your support. Ultimately, this
will make a marked improvement in your lives and your property values.
