I have read a few emails posted over the weekend regarding the Con Com appointments so I will try and clear up any confusion that may exist.
First, I intend to make the appointments at the Board of Selectmen (BOS) meeting this Thursday evening July 24th. The appointments of the two incumbent terms, have been delayed for a couple of meetings, but it is has not impacted the ability of the Commission to function as the incumbents continue to serve. Two other members resigned recently, and we had to take the time to advertise the positions as our policy dictates. Those two positions were not ready to be acted upon until last week's meeting on July 10th. I intended to appoint all four positions at that meeting, but I found out that very day that the Conservation Administrator was resigning. Therefore I did ask for a delay of one meeting. So again, all four appointments will be presented to the BOS this week. At that time I will also address some of the other issues that have been discussed in this forum and elsewhere. I will discuss what I see as my role in appointing the Con Com and what my criteria for appointments are. Also, I will address the issue of the appointing authority and the possible changes that could be considered. I hope this eases the minds of those who are anxious for the appointments to be made, and I thank you all for your patience.
