Hi Janice
Do any of the documents give warnings when you open them; for example,
missing fonts or graphics? When you open a FrameMaker document that has
cross-references to other documents, it "silently" opens the other documents
in order to resolve the cross-references. If the other documents have
missing fonts or graphics, FrameMaker will not open them and will instead
report unresolved cross-references.
There is a reliable way to check this: choose a single document that is
giving you the unresolved cross-reference message and make sure it is
closed. Then open all of the documents that are cross-referenced by this
document. Now try to open the document and you shouldn't get any unresolved
cross-reference messages. That is because all of the target documents are
already open, so FrameMaker can easily resolve the cross-references to these
documents.

Subject: cross-reference problem
We are using unstructured FM 7.0. Our book contains several chapters. The
files were moved from one location to another location. When the writer
opened up the book, he received an "unresolved cross-reference" message.
He
did a Search on the unresolved-cross references and re-submitted the
cross-references. He was able to generate the book, but the next time he
opened the book, he received the "unresolved cross-reference" message
again. It was the same cross-references. He corrected them again, and the
whole cycle repeated itself. Does anyone have an idea of why this keeps
happening and how we can resolve it?
