Plus, importing EPS into Framemaker generates only a gray box. I need to add callouts and other textual information, so not seeing the artwork on the page isn't an option.
When you save as EPS, there should be a dialogue that lets you specify a preview. This is what FrameMaker uses to display the EPS. Note, however, that it is a low-res preview, not the full resolution image that FM will display.
