Taking a flier at this, for Mac OS there are built-ins to improve all sorts of bits of the interface to deal with various impairments (not that I'm suggesting you have an impairment: the I-beam has always been a bit hard to spot). However, I am sure, from memory, that before these were added to the OS, there were third-party hac... bolt-ones to achieve the same thing.
