When you change to the non-PDF printer you will get a message saying that the text may reflow. But the thing to do when you want to print to the printer is just print to PDF and then send your PDF to the printer from Acrobat. That way you won't get any surprises.

I have also changed my Windows default printer to Adobe PDF; it remains to be seen what happens when I need to use a physical printer. Users shouldn't have to keep resetting this stuff.
