You CAN do it this way if you want, but it is much easier to just set the numbering properties at the book level and update the book. Dismiss the inconsistency messages and when the update is done, the numbering will be as you set it. There is no need to check each document.
For page numbering, you can select one or more components in the book and look at the book's status bar and it will show you the selected documents' numbering. Open all of your documents and the book. Start with your book and make sure the numbering is correct (from your book, right click each document and select Numbering from the menu to view the numbering properties). When you are done, select all your documents within the book. Right click your mouse and click save from the menu. Open each document and then check the numbering properties (Format > Document > Numbering) to ensure they are correct. Save each document as you go along. Update your book. This should take care of the error message. When you have a common document in your book, its page numbering will be set to how it was numbered the last time it was updated, either in the current book or any other book that it is contained in. That is where the mismatch may come from and FrameMaker is simply warning you about it. It should not be necessary to open the document and change its properties; when you update the book and dismiss the Inconsistent Numbering Properties dialog box, it should make the document's numbering the way it is supposed to be for that book. I use the certain documents in several books. When I update those books I have Inconsistent Numbering Properties. I open the documents that are named. I set their numbering properties as in the book. But the problem is then put to another document, or same one. I only use documents within books. Is there some way to tell FrameMaker or a book to ignore the document numbering use only the numbering done in the book. It would be great to understand/solve this once and for all.
