Problem is 'solved' - sorry to have bothered you (deadline....) but it still is a bug in FM7.2:
It turned out to be an image, EPS image that actually wasn't EPS but AI format. FrameMaker 7.1 had no problem importing the XML, but FrameMaker 7.2 crashed. Illustration was identified as pdf (NDATA pdf) when the XML was created in FM 7.1. Extension was .EPS. Apparently FM 7.2 can't handle this misinterpretation?
