Job Description * Adheres to all Style Guides and Templates * Prepares and updates Hardware Operation and Maintenance manuals * Creates and updates Technical publications for Manufacturing, Field Service, Quality Assurance/Reliability, Corporate Policies and Training * Gathers technical information, prepares written text * Researches available engineering information such as drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications * Interviews engineers and other technical personnel * Ensures that the documentation is transferred through to production and that any errors in this process are rectified * Keeps track of tasks and ensure that these are in line with the project plan * Notifies the Lead Technical Writer or Manufacturing Engineering Manager of any slip in the schedule or additional requests * Adheres to policy and version/number controls on all documentation * Supports designated projects/products * Continued professional development to highlight areas where knowledge and experience should be acquired or enhanced. Duties: * Follow departmental polices and procedures including, but not limited to: - Engineering design standards - Configuration management - Sustaining engineering - Manufacturing engineering - Release procedures - Safety standards Competencies: 1. Education and training * Ideal candidates should be degree qualified, science/engineering or another relevant field or have equivalent experience. Other applications will be considered provided they have the relevant job experience. 2. Required technical experience * Requires working knowledge of customer requirements, various company products, purpose and structure of documents, and user's level of understanding * In-depth knowledge of Adobe FrameMaker (desktop publishing software), Windows Office and one or more of the following: - Adobe Acrobat - Adobe PhotoShop - Adobe Illustrator - Photo Manipulation Programs - Digital Camera 3. Ideal experience * Two years plus of relevant technical authoring experience in a company that manufactures or distributes scientific instruments. * Knowledge of semiconductors, semiconductor measurement tools and the semiconductor industry is highly desirable but not essential. * Demonstrated experience (with writing samples/portfolio) of writing various Technical publications including user (operation) and service manuals for technical products 4. Personal qualities * Analytical and methodical with an attention to detail * Flexible and positive attitude * Self-motivated, shows initiative and common sense * Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision * Good written and verbal communication skills * Willingness to gain knowledge of Nanometrics technologies, products and markets (e.g. semiconductor industry). * Follow company-wide polices and procedures, for example: - Behavior - Corporate Culture - Dress code - Health and safety - House keeping - Professionalism - Time keeping * Submit status reports to the Tech Pubs Manager as part of the weekly review meeting * Perform any other reasonable duties as required by the Lead Technical Writer or Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
