Drupal is an open-source web content management system. You build websites with it, and Drupal connects your GUI front end to a MySQL backend with a bunch of php magic. If the MySQL database connection is down (and the very first time you install Drupal, until you connect the to the database), you get the message that you saw. Even after you get connected it takes a few hours to conect all the plumbing. I doubt that the site admin is performing such a comprehensive and potentially disruptive activity without letting the users know, so it is probably just a mundane database connection issue. I manage two Drupal websites and very very seldom see this screen (maybe twice, both times when hosting service upgrades knocked out my MySQL connections). It will probably be fixed within a few hours of the hosting service recognizing the problem.

What is this about? Is the site down or do we really have to install this software to get on the site now? Here's the message. ========= Unable to connect to database server If you still have to install Drupal, proceed to the installation page. If you have already finished installed Drupal, this either means that the username and password information in your settings.php file is incorrect or that we can't connect to the MySQL database server. This could mean your hosting provider's database server is down. The MySQL error was: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES). Currently, the username is root and the database server is localhost. ========= Does anyone know what's going on here? Some of the previous thoughts still apply, but I'll reiterate one which has tripped up the software my company creates. How draconian is your IT department? Check the permissions on the C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker7.0\ folder as well as the folder to which you're saving files. You may need to add Full Control of the folder explicitly to one or both of those. If you're not an administrator on the local machine, this becomes even more important. Have you tried doing the Save As to an implicitly writable folder like C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\? (It shows up as "Shared Documents" in the folder tree at the left.) Your desktop is another option. Hope this helps, Lea _________________________________ Lea Rush Software and Documentation Specialist Astoria-Pacific International PO Box 830 Clackamas OR 97015 PH: 800-657-3010 FAX: 503-655-7367 -----Original Message----- From: framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com [mailto:framers-bounces at lists.frameusers.com] On Behalf Of leah Sent: Tuesday, July 15, 2008 4:03 AM To: Frame Users Subject: New computer woes cont'd Sorry guys, didn't include vital information I am on Windows XP.
