Joseph, As Rick mentions below you must have a book or document open. What you want to press are:
Esc Shift+F I (lower case eye) S (lower case ess) Those are four separate sets of keystrokes done sequentially. According to the FM 9 help system, the keyboard shortcut to open the spell checker is: esc shift+f+i+s. I've tried pressing the following on my keyboard: press the ESC button, then press shift+f+i+s.
