Hello, I have had similar problems with documents, importing PNG graphics that were colour depth of 24 bit or 32bit RGB - which would occasionally give your error message, but most often would often silently crash FrameMaker!
If my memory serves me well, I think the problematic PNG files had been created by Adobe Illustrator. As the graphics were grayscale, I simply reduced the palette to 8 bit, and saved as PNG. My favourite [Windows] application for simple changes to graphics has to be Irfanview - small, simple, and doesn't even need to be installed. In the recent past I have had no problem importing *.png graphic files into FrameMaker 8. Today I tried to import a *.png file and received an error message: "The filter encountered an error and could not complete the translation." I can import files in other formats such as *.jpg. I had a quick look on the Adobe support forum, but the only references to this error message appear to be related to importing PDF documents into FrameMaker 7. Any ideas for resolving this issue would be gratefully received. Thanks David
