That's what I suggested. Note that you can't use those in user-defined variables, you need to edit one of the system date variables. Current Date (Short) is probably the best choice. You could also use Modification Date (Short), or the (Long) versions of either. Modification Date can be problematic if you forget to update before printing or generating a PDF.
