Try Esc, hyphen, h. Thats a non- breaking hyphen. In such situations, I create a user variable, where I can use the non-breaking hyphen. In FrameMaker, one generally inserts a non-breaking hyphen with the sequence, esc-hyphen-h. It ends up looking odd in dialog boxes for things such as variables, but it always works.
