Best to do a test run. However, you can open with FM12 once you do this. Your mileage may vary though depending on what you have in the files. The rest of us are on FM 12 but will be upgrading, although I don't know when. I looked at the 2017 user guide and it says you can save as 2015. It doesn't mention 2012.
