I suggest you forget about the Heading 2 Special and do it The Right Way.
Heading 1: <n+>.< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>\t Heading 2: <n>.<n+>.< =0>< =0>< =0>\t [You are unclear--between you code examples and your rendering examples--whether or not you want a period after every numbering structure, so I'll assume that you do.] Heading 3: <n>.<n>.<n+>.< =0>< =0>\t Heading 4: <n>.<n>.<n>.<n+>.< =0>\t Heading 5: <n>.<n>.<n>.<n>.<n+>.\t Notice that the < =0> reset to zero without displaying the building block value. Viz: [1]https://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/2015/using/index.html#t=usin g-framemaker-2015%2Ffrm_page_layout_pl%2FLists_and_autonumbering-.htm This method relies on resetting paragraph number each chapter in your book (to make first building block = 0); but it does not require multiple styles for each heading to reset other numbering structure parts to 0. IMO, the only reason one should use multiple styles for the same 'thing' is if you want different padding or coloration or something. And I only use "First" styles (common in step numbering) to change Space Before Pgf compared to normal step styles [FWIW]. Finally, unless you have a style rule (.gov means probably so!), I'd alternate <n>, <A>, <n>, and <a>... and maybe even get into <r> if you find yourself diving down to H5 and lower. A string of period-separated numbers can become eye-melting with the wrong typeface and the right numbers (all 1s; 3s, 8s, and 9s; and so forth). HTH; David -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [Framers] New paragraph tag revert back in TOC when book is updated From: "Harrington, Matthew (Contractor)" <[2]matt.harrington.contrac...@usap.gov> Date: Fri, April 06, 2018 5:44 pm To: "[3]framers@lists.frameusers.com" <[4]framers@lists.frameusers.com> Hi Framers, I've been wrestling with a couple of elusive issues in Frame 12 when trying to add a new paragraph tag in my chapters and getting it to show up in my TOC. I was hoping one or more of you might be able to put me on the right path, please. I'm having some difficulty articulating the issues as I write this, so I'll just start with "Issue #1" for now. Issue #1 In my FM book chapters I have been trying to create a one-off of the Heading 2 paragraph tag (let's call it "Heading 2 Special") where the numbering syntax is set to <n>.<n=0>.\t. The purpose of this tag is to create a Heading 2, "1.0", "2.0", etc. because the Heading 1 in each of my chapters needs to remain as "1. Introduction", "2. Facility Description", etc. My regular Heading 2 syntax is set to its normal default of <n>.<n+>.\t. to permit it to increment normally (e.g., 1.1, 1.2, etc.) after the Heading 2 Special instance in each chapter. I am usually (but not always-my Issue #2) able to get the Heading 2 one-off paragraph tag to appear in the TOC (though I have to keep fiddling with it in the reference pages to get my leaders, chapter, etc. to have the appearance of the Heading 2, "1.1", "1.2", etc.), but every time I update the book the "Heading 2 SpecialTOC" paragraph tag generated by the TOC will not retain the "1.0", "2.0", etc. status. It keeps reverting to "1.1", "2.1", etc. even though my source chapter paragraph tag for the "Heading 2 Special" still has "1.0", "2.0", etc. Sometimes my Indents and Spacing settings revert too. Very strange. I know there is something I'm not doing correctly, but I've been hitting a brick wall trying to troubleshoot it. Any thoughts? Thank you, Matt P.S. - a caveat--I was away from FrameMaker for a handful of years so I've been getting back up to speed on it in the last 8 months or so. And, reference pages are not my strong suite. _______________________________________________ This message is from the Framers mailing list Send messages to [5]framers@lists.frameusers.com Visit the list's homepage at [6]http://www.frameusers.com Archives located at [7]http://www.mail-archive.com/framers%40lists.frameusers.com/ Subscribe and unsubscribe at [8]http://lists.frameusers.com/listinfo.cgi/framers-frameusers.com Send administrative questions to [9]listad...@frameusers.com References 1. https://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/2015/using/index.html#t=using-framemaker-2015%2Ffrm_page_layout_pl%2FLists_and_autonumbering-.htm 2. mailto:matt.harrington.contrac...@usap.gov 3. mailto:framers@lists.frameusers.com 4. mailto:framers@lists.frameusers.com 5. mailto:framers@lists.frameusers.com 6. http://www.frameusers.com/ 7. http://www.mail-archive.com/framers%40lists.frameusers.com 8. http://lists.frameusers.com/listinfo.cgi/framers-frameusers.com 9. mailto:listad...@frameusers.com
