You can make a gray box by making a table format, with specific ruling and shading properties. Then insert a table with 1 cell, 1 row. The only down-side to this is that FrameMaker will only allow a cell to be 1 page long.

You may also want to specify the table design to use a specific paragraph format for your mono-spaced Courier font, with the Paragraph Designer > Advanced > Word Spacing properties set with the minimum, maximum, and optimum spacing = 100% ; otherwise the spacing of the font may look bizarre at times.
