*Solar Shrine: A summer celebration of mystical, magical film and video *

Celebrate the season of summer, as the sun reaches its highest point in the
sky,

with a night of mystically oriented films and videos.



Including works by occult filmmaker *Micki Pellerano*, a Mayan Solstice
piece with live music *by Ivy Meadows (Camilla Padgitt Coles),* a
documentary by *Olivia Wyatt* about a group of Celestial Church of Christ
practitioners who meet on Rockaway Beach between the hours of midnight and
6 am., psychedelic animation from *Alice Cohen*, a James Ferraro sound and
video short, and a work on film by *Stephanie Wuertz.*

*Super 8 Portraits Programmed by Stephanie Gray*             $5-$8 pay what
you can; no one turned away.

Filmmakers were asked to shoot a portrait of a person,

building, or some other thing on super 8, edited in camera, up to 9 min.

Diving into the blue <> fracture/split

(variable speed, color 3 min ish)

A familiar sight is split and fractured, glimmered and shimmered to see in
the sheen.

Plus: maybe one (non-alive, but maybe) surprise portrait.



*Josh Lewis*

Ely (3 min, b/w, silent)

A quiet film of one of the loudest people I know. Just a girl at home,
trying on her treasures, every inch her own muse.

Ice Castles (3 min, silent)

Flatbush Cab - Personal Stories / Visual Experience (9 min, sound)

Cab drivers stories of how they came to be in NYC from the Caribbean
Islands. Field recordings and non-sync sound interviews. Footage of the cab
route down Flatbush Ave.

Simon: Portrait of an Urban Surfer (6 min, b/w, sound)  -  Simon plays
upright bass and surfs at Rockaway Beach.

Kara: Portrait of a Motorcycle Racer (3 min, b/w, sound)  -  Kara races a
vintage triumph motorcycle on a flat track in upstate New York.

7 *on Regular 8mm film!



*Optical Printing Workshop with instructor, Kelly Spivey*

Starting July, 2012 - Three Saturdays 2pm-5pm



Expand the possibilities of your filmmaking with optical printing. Whether
you wish to blow up your 8mm film to 16mm, or improve the amount of control
and flexibility of your work, this class will provide you with firm
grounding in the use of the JK Optical printer. Taught by Kelly Spivey, a
talented and skilled user of the optical printer, you will receive a
thorough introduction to the set-up, use, and care of the printer. There
will be individual attention and hands on experience. After successful
completion of the course, you will be permitted to use the optical printer
at the Millennium. This course is restricted to members only – sign up as a
member when you pay for the course – membership allows you to rent the
printer at only $5 per hour.   $150 for three sessions, $170 if not already
a member. Class is limited to six people.

*Final Cut Editing*

Starting July, 2012 - Three Sundays 2pm-5pm



This hands-on workshop will introduce students to digital video editing
with Final Cut. Students will get an overview of the program's user
interface and will learn all the basic editing functions needed to take a
short project from start to finish.
