Ugh. It's so highly variable from airport to airport. Some inspectors will let you open the can and show the end of the reel. Some will force you to put the can through the x-ray. And there's no way to know in advance what the policies are or how the inspectors are feeling that day. It's probably best to mail the stock back home.
