I write to you now in my capacity as the Founding Director of Experimenta - India's first and only international festival for experimental film. Now in its eighth edition, this year’s festival will be held in Bangalore, India from 27th November - 1st December 2013. Experimenta India is a groundbreaking platform that has over the years played a significant role in countering the hegemony of the mainstream Indian film industry. Through nurturing an alternative community that reflects upon, and examines the different traces of Indian artists’ film and video, both historical and contemporary, we engage in a series of projects that bring together Indian and international film artists with similar creative and socio-political concerns. Besides curating EXPERIMENTA, the critically acclaimed bi-annual festival, we also showcase Indian experimental film and video at international film festivals and art venues like the Tate Modern (London), the Berlinale Film festival (Berlin), Images festival (Toronto), EXiS festival (Seoul) amongst others. As we are an independent festival with no formal sources of funding, this year we have started a unique crowd funding initiative to bring together a community of individuals with similar aesthetic and sociopolitical concerns. With fund raising for an event/platform as cutting edge as Experimenta getting more difficult with each year, we are now looking to friends and supporters, like you, to keep Experimenta alive! The organisation we have partnered with – Orange Street - is deeply involved in philanthropic work, so a percentage of your donation goes towards supporting their projects for underprivileged children in South India, and an 80G tax exemption certificate is also offered.
