Actually, no, the 1/4 tripod thread is _supposed_ to be Whitworth thread.
A 1/4-20NC screw will fit into it fine but it won't be completely tight
because the thread profile is different.  Still, lots of people do it
and get away with it (and there are a lot of Chinese tripods with NC
threads on them).

The 3/8-16 adaptor used to be a standard camera store item and I know
that B&H stocks them.  You'll need one for a Bolex also!
