Scott, when the Zombie Apocalypse comes, you will find that "old film junk" to be very valuable. You can use a turned over 6 plate moviola flatbed to block a door, which is something that Final Cut Pro will never be able to do. Who has the last laugh then?

The Moviola flatbeds are not THAT hard to maintain, although sadly the company in NYC that had spare parts inventories tossed everything into a dumpster about five years ago. Still, the electronics are all fairly generic TTL stuff and there are few weird mechanical parts because the controls are all-electronic. The main worry is getting mag heads when they wear out, and with a little machine shop work you can fit Nortronics replacement heads in there. That said, I spent $10 for my six-plate about ten years ago, and since then I have seen several of them turn up at auction with no bidders at any price. I nearly bid on them just to save them from the scrapyard but I already have a garage full of old film junk that I don't know what to do with. --scott _______________________________________________ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
