I don’t see any of those negative evaluations (perversion in the negative sense) - I see transformation of content; the result is contingent on the original. I don’t ask if its appropriate, Duchamp says you already said so. But ppl still argue that point, a lot. I see legit re-presentations of Arnold’s work. They give me more insight than stills, even without sound. I may not be your 'exemplar audience member’. . . Each audience member’s going to make their evaluations. A particular person's argument with that point can just be their experience of the work. How are you going to introduce an audience to them? Online, gallery? What does the show look like? Where’s the (barf) gallery wall text in relationship to this work? That framework will help your cause. How do you want the work to meet the audience? Jessica who says ‘barf’ next to ‘gallery wall text’ because generally i’m not interested in attempts to determine the audience’s experience. . . however if you’re concerned the audience is going to take away the pejorative read, pointing them in another direction may help * * * * * Jessica Fenlon artist : poet : experimental ~ http://www.drawclose.com On May 9, 2014, at 1:06 PM, LJ Frezza <[email protected]> wrote: > Right off the top of my head, I do think that audio is incredibly important > to Arnold's work, and unfortunately, there is no way to include audio in a > gif (yet...), so in that sense I suppose it could be considered a compromise. > Unfortunately, my computer isn't loading the gifs that I assume are on that > page, so I can't offer any informed criticism, though I assume they are > re-mixes and in that sense, I don't think they are a compromise of his work > since they by no means are stand-ins for the originals. > -LJ > > > On Fri, May 9, 2014 at 1:33 PM, Nicholas A Briz <[email protected]> wrote: > hi all, just wondering... > > ...looking for some thoughts on this: > http://www.nickbriz.com/martinarnoldanimatedgifs/ re-dug these up for an > upcoming show && in thinking about 'em again wonder'd what this community > might think?
