Dear Frameworkers, On behalf of the team of our festival, I am most pleased to announce you the program of (S8) 5th Peripheral Film Festival, that will take place from the 4th to the 8th of June 2014 in A Coruña, Spain. (S8) Peripheral Film Festival is an unique event in Spain, with special focus on the avant garde filmmaking, performance, expanded cinema and small gauge formats.
Celebrating the Dual Year Spain-Japan, we will have a special program on Japanese Cinema that will include the work of Takahiko Iimura<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/vanguardias/takahiko-iimura/>, that will be in A Coruña showing a retrospective of his films, along with a performance, an installation and a conversation with the audience. Historic avant garde will be also represented in a program curated by Daïchi Saïto, “Through a Rearview Mirror: Japanese Experimental Films Revisited”<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/vanguardias/vanguardia-japonesa-saito/>, that includes works by Terayama, Morishita, Ito, Matsumoto, Kota and Okuyama. We will have a complete program on Daïchi Saïto<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/a-segunda-vida-das-imaxes/daichi-saito/>´s films, and the Super 8 will be present through the films of Teruo Koike<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/a-segunda-vida-das-imaxes/teruo-koike/>, that will show a selection of his Ecosystem series. Four programs on Japanese film collective [+] will be featured, with the work of Takashi Makino<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/super-8-contemporaneo/takashi-makino/>(including the Spanish premiere of his film *Phantom Nebula* and the performance *Space Noise 3D*), Rei Hayama<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/super-8-contemporaneo/rei-hayama/>and Shinkan Tamaki<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/super-8-contemporaneo/shinkan-tamaki/>. The Japanese program will be completed with two pioneer works: *Jirokichi the Rat*<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/archivos-historicos/gala-de-inauguracion/>(1931), by Daisuke Ito, accompanied by a katsuben narration, and* A <http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/archivos-historicos/una-pagina-de-la-locura/>* *Page of Madness*<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/archivos-historicos/una-pagina-de-la-locura/>, by Teinosuke Kinugasa (1926). Our expanded cinema section, Desbordamientos, will be completed with the work of the Spanish artists Esperanza Collado<http://www.esperanzacollado.org/W.html>and Colectivo Crater<http://www.cratercollective.com/es/film-works/film-performances/reels-and-lights>. Sinais, the section that displays the new Galician filmmakers, will have this year Eloy Domínguez Serén<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/sinais/eloy-dominguez-seren/>as a protagonist (last year we had Lois Patiño), along with Xurxo Chirro<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/sinais/une-histoire-seule/>. Media City Film Festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a program curated by Oona Mosna and Jeremy Rigsby<http://www.s8cinema.com/portal/en/edicion-2014/festival-invitado/media-city-film-festival/>, with films by Fern Silva, Nicky Hamlyn, Helga Fanderl, Peter Hutton, Friedl von Gröller, Shino Kano, Malena Szlam and Neil Henderson. *Jodie Mack* will close the festival with her program “Let Your Light Shine”. We will also host a *Focus on Artist-Run Film Labs*, a proffessional meeting that will have as guests Nicolas Rey, from *L'Abominable* (París), Juan David González Monroy, from *Labor Berlín*, Daïchi Saïto and Malena Szlam from *Double Negative* (Montreal).
