FreeBSD 13.5-RELEASE on a SuperMicro X11SCM-F motherboard booting in UEFI mode
off an nvme drive with as ZFS file system. Board is running the latest
available BIOS from SuperMicro (2.7, 2025-04-02).
System boots fine in Legacy mode, all hardware is recognized. The problem with
Legacy mode is that it can't boot from an NVME drive, and the goal here is to
migrate from some old SATA drives to some new NVME drives.
Kernel loads and probes most of the hardware successfully. Hang occurs after
probing pcbib6:
pcib6: <ACPI PCI-PCI bridge> ira 19 at device 28.3 on pci0
pcib6: failed to allocate initial memory window: 0x90000000-0x910fffff
Based on a lot of articles online I've tried the following:
- Turning on/off fast boot.
- Turning on/off C-states.
- Turning on/off Above 4GB MMIO BIOS Assignment.
- Appears to need to be on, or I don't even get this far.
- NVMe Firmware Source in both "Vendor" and "AMI" mode.
- Network Stack on/off.
- Booting in verbose mode to get more information.
I will also attach the /boot/loader.conf file in use, which works fine in
Legacy mode, a dmesg.boot from Legacy mode, and an lspci output.
