Bug ID: 299031
Summary: installation may create partition missing superblock
Product: Base System
Version: CURRENT
Hardware: amd64
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Some People
Priority: ---
Component: bin
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Starting with version 11-R (Linux-like installer), bsdinstall may create a
partition that lacks a superblock. The main issue appears to be the
configuration of the “/” partition + swap partition + other partitions; the
sizes of the “/” partition and the swap partition can significantly affect the
partitions immediately following them.
This situation can occur on any CPU and with any type or capacity of hard
drive. Below is an example configuring an 80GB hard drive—with a 36GB system
slice (the size of this partition is irrelevant).

It looks like that partition a + b must be 4 GB aligned, or it could be
something else.
