Parts of it was derived from FreeBSD (mainly userland stuff.)
Other parts of MacOS X (including the kernel) was mainly derived from Mach, 
and some parts were of course written by Apple themselves (or taken from
other places.)

So, even though it is in part derived from FreeBSD, you should not expect
any sort of binary compatibility between them.
