I've just become aware that samba.org is no longer supporting Samba 2 (which has served me well for so long) and I should upgrade to Samba 3, which is now the stable version. I don't find any warnings about it in /usr/ports/UPDATING. Does anyone have any gotchas I should be aware of?
Hi,
you should definitely take a look into the official Samba-3 HOWTO. http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.pdf
there is a separate part about migration and updating.
you should also read about the "Account Information Databases" in part-III/chapter 10, as this is importand to reuse your old smbpasswd or passdb.tdb file.
good luck ;-) Joerg
